In 1980 I took my first aerobics class. My body was covered in a black leotard and my legs adorned with soon to be my favorite pair of pink leg warmers. Bouncing up and down, kicking my legs to the Rolling Stone’s, “She’s So Hot” soon became my favorite thing to do. I was hooked. Something about moving to music, hopping up and down gave me energy. It was here my passion for fitness began.
It was then that I discovered that I wanted to share my energy and passion for fitness with others. Something about helping people get fit energized me. While I was helping my friends get fit, I also learned that exercise was not enough. I learned that nutrition was a component that had to be included as well. Along the way, I made another discovery that most people would not associate with fitness… I discovered the importance of having a positive well-being. I discovered through my own struggles with body image issues and emotional eating: that being fit is important, but is not the whole picture. If you don’t feel good inside your soul, it will be difficult to ever reach your fitness goals.
But then came raising a family and other obligations… And in the blink of an eye, kids are grown and almost out of the house.
Now that my “mom” job is almost over, I’ve decided to put my energy into following my dream of helping others become fit and healthy. It is time to pass on the knowledge I have received through both education and life experiences. A lot has changed since the 80s. Science has made new discoveries. Eggs and avocados are considered healthy once again. But many of the common sense fitness lessons I learned through experience, still apply.
Through the decades I realized that I love to inspire people to get healthy and fit. I also realized that good sound nutrition is part of a healthy lifestyle. The reason I am starting this blog is to help you move beyond the latest fads in fitness and learn how to incorporate practical solutions to live a healthy lifestyle. I also want to inspire you to move more, teach you how to fuel your body with good nutritious food, and encourage you to find that inner peace that can bring you a positive well-being.
I hope you enjoy reading my posts as much as I have enjoyed researching and writing them.
And here’s to a healthier you! Your Fitness Coach, Kim
